Hmm.. the first thing that came to mind was how a rather simple task such as calling my grandparents is often very troublesome and perplexing for them. And, that's just calling. Imagine how our video calls go...

So, I immediately knew the type of app they would appreciate the most: the one that got them connected with their six grand kids the quickest and easiest. Keeping in their mind their short attention span and aged eye sight, I designed an app layout that maximized useful icons and simplified easy tasks.

In doing so, I developed the interface design for an app called, "call my grand kids" -- super direct to the point, just the way my grandparents prefer it. I used icons that they familiar and relate to such as an old school phone and a heart (for their grand kids haha).

After the initial loading page, they will be presented with immediate access to who they would like to reach out to: a portfolio for each grand kid presented with their name and most importantly a picture! My grandparents love nothing more than pictures of me and my cousins :) so it was essential for them to have a visual.

Each page covers 4 contacts at a time. By simply pressing the back and forward arrows, any grandparent can easily navigate and find which lucky grand kid to give a call or message!

I strategically placed the large navigation arrows in the middle of the screen since from experience, my grandparents have had trouble with these features the most. So, I wanted to make sure it was right in their view point.

Some additional unique features of this app that I believe my grandma would love is the voice control feature, emergency call button, and video call mode. Another popular question that I can guarantee my grandparents ask each time we call is how to turn on their camera... While the video call button is hidden from their view on other apps, I have placed it right in the middle of the screen for their easy access. This time, as long as the video icon is pressed, video call mode will be on and automatically call with the camera on when calling a grand kid.

To active the voice control to make requests such as "Call Bartu" or "Message Sena," they simply have to press on the bottom icon with the microphone, close proximity to their thumb.
